EMT Training Class
The Killingworth Ambulance Association runs several EMT classes a year for individuals, ages 16 and older, who are interested in gaining the knowledge and skills necessary to become an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT). The course is approximately 160 hours of classroom time, plus sessions that cover practical skills, and runs over a period of four months. Upon successful completion of the course, candidates are eligible to take the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians exam, composed of both written and practical components. Throughout the duration of the course, candidates will gain the medical knowledge and practical skills necessary to provide outstanding pre-hospital patient care.

Stop the Bleed
Killingworth recently became the first town in Connecticut to have its residents certified for the “Stop the Bleed” program when 19 persons – including Killingworth Ambulance Association EMTs and board members – on July 5 completed a one-hour course led by Dr. Carolyn Rambus, an emergency medical physician at Yale-New Haven Health and a KAA board member. With its first step, the KAA hopes to launch classes for persons or groups interested in learning more about “Stop the Bleed,” a national awareness campaign launched in October, 2015, intended to encourage grass-roots efforts to empower the general public to help in bleeding emergencies before professional help arrives. To check for upcoming Stop The Bleed classes and to RSVP, please visit our registration page.
