About Us

The Killingworth Ambulance Association dates back to April 14, 1971 when it was incorporated and ...

--- First used a 1964 Cadillac ambulance that was purchased in 1971 from the town of Greenwich, thanks to a $3,000 donation by another local resident, philanthropist Marion Platt.

--- Currently has 25 active EMTs.

--- Has been located at its present site on Route 81 (on land leased from the town) since 1982.

--- Made 496 transports from Jan. 1, 2021 to Jan. 1, 2022, not including calls where no one was taken to a hospital (lift assists, fire stand-bys, refusal of transports, etc.). The majority of the calls occurred between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Compare the total figure to the number of transports 40 years ago when the KAA had fewer than 50 calls a year. Or compare it to two years before when it had 355 from 2019-20, a jump of 39.7 percent.

The Killingworth Ambulance Association is a member of the Valley Shore Mutual Aid Association and is operated by a dedicated group of community members and Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs), committed to providing outstanding patient care and community service to the people of Killingworth, Ct. Our EMTs are trained to rapidly and efficiently respond to all types of medical and trauma emergencies.

The KAA works alongside members of the Killingworth Volunteer Fire Company's Rescue Squad (Rescue 8) at the location of the incident or medical emergency. It also works closely with the Middlesex Hospital Paramedic program, with paramedics responding from the hospital in Middletown or the Shoreline Clinic in Westbrook.

The KAA also runs a variety of classes each year, including EMT, EMT re-certification, CPR/AED and basic first aid. If you're interested in learning what is required to become an EMT, taking the classes we offer or becoming a volunteer in any way, please contact us by telephone (860-663-2450) or be email. We are always looking for volunteers to join the KAA family.

The KAA's board of directors is composed of 13 volunteers who meet the fourth Wednesday of every month, with all meetings open to the public. The board this year consists of the following persons:
